Oleg Zhivetin's Biography

A native of Russia, Oleg Zhivetin has been painting in Southern California since 1990. Has it mattered to him where he has paints? Russia or America? "It doesn`t really make a difference where you paint, or even what you paint. It`s how you paint that matters and what your feelings are." Oleg`s paintings present us with a fascinating cast of characters, often dressed in richly ornamented costumes. Gallant men and attractive women are depicted gesturing, reacting or musing in a special moment. Gifts of flowers, poetry, and thoughts of home are recurrent themes in his work. Complex compositions of family, lovers, and friends are exquisitely rendered in brilliant tones of ocean blue, heart red and vivid green - with warm shadows of cloud and earth. The spiritual and emotional approach to painting Oleg relies upon comes from an abiding deference for the masters of the past.
