Rita Guzzi's Biography

A graduate of The Art Institute of Boston, Rita Guzzi also attended the Teaching Training Program of Boston University, and served as a faculty member of the Art Institute for many years. An extremely talented and diverse artist, she is best known for her paintings of champion thoroughbreds and Triple Crown races along with her romantic impressionistic paintings of Victorian women and children.
From an early age, Victorian painter Winslow Homer influenced Rita in fact her studio is close to where Homer's was in Prouts Neck, Maine. The works of Frank Merrit Chase, and the seaside paintings of Boudin also impressed her. She has portrayed Victorian women in settings around the world - from Nice and Cap Ferrat on The Cote D'Azur, to Portofino and Positano in Italy. From Boston Garden to the coasts of Maine and Connecticut. She has also envisioned her subjects in the Victorian era at Saratoga Springs. Future portraits will encompass scenes of Deauville and Trouville.
Since graduating from the Art Institute, Rita has enjoyed a successful career not just as an accomplished artist, but also as an instructor of painting. Her work is proudly displayed in public and private collections, fine art galleries and museums throughout the United States. Rita was commissioned by NASA to document the initial launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor at the Kennedy Space Center. She also portrayed the 1988 launch of Discovery for the U.S. Air Force Art Collection. |
