Michelle Torrez's Biography
The soft, yet vividly expressionistic oil paintings of Michelle Torrez are like Sonnets on canvas. Michelle gracefully communicates the beauty of unlikely emotion. She not only gives expression to the subtleties of human movement, but brings out her subjects' inner life. She reminisces, "My life has influenced me to look deeper to find the beauty and humanity in people and places. Even at an early age, I knew I was an artist."
Born in Denver, Colorado, Michelle's work has become highly collected and recognized both nationally and internationally. Her paintings have been featured in multiple publications - a select few being Southwest Art, Colorado Expressions, La Voz, Image Magazine, Enlightened Woman, and Frontier Magazine. In 2003 she was selected by the U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria to participate in the "Art in Embassies Program". Torrez now represents the United States alongside such renowned artists as John Singer Sargent, Wolf Kahn, and N.C. Wyeth. This incredibly prestigious honor includes the display of two of her paintings in the public receiving rooms of the Ambassador's residence at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria. In addition, Michelle Torrez was invited to the White House, where she met Secretary of State Colin Powell and First Lady Laura Bush.
